The Lockdown

I miss my cappuccino, Isabella misses her friends, we miss going out for happy hour and we miss Milano. Within hours from my last post on Saturday, Lombardy went under lockdown because of the Coronavirus epidemic and by the following day the lockdown was for the entire nation. The virus is spreading and every day there is an increase of infected people and deaths.  This week more and more restrictions went into effect and now everything is closed except for supermarkets, drug stores and pharmacies. Bars are closed, so no more cappuccino for me, and we can't go outside except for groceries or emergencies. This will go on at least until the 3rd of April but we are afraid that it could be extended as this is spreading all over the world. We understand this is the best way to reduce the epidemic and it's important not just for our safety but also for the community.

Isabella asks me every day if we can go to the park or invite people over for dinner or go to grandmas’ house and of course the answer is always no. Sometime she understands and sometimes she gets sad.

I am so grateful we have a backyard. Isabella can at least stay a little bit outside and still be safe as there are very few kids in the apartment building and she has learned that one of the rules is to stay at least one meter away from them. As restrictions get tighter, I’m starting to become paranoid to even take her out at all.
